A woman walks by in a coat the color of Pepto Bismol, with just a hint more red. "Puce" would probably be the technical term, if I were a visual artist or an interior decorator, or even if I weren't.
It's an old-fashioned color, the color of graceful porcelain roses on my grandmother's shelf. Mid-twentieth century middle brow elegance, harkening back even further, to pre-faded Edwardian kitsch.
